Registration and Enrollment
MySchool@Kent allows for open enrollment throughout the school year. However, as the end of the term nears, the number of classes a student may enroll in decreases.
Enrollment in the program follows a 4 step process -
Student/family downloads and completes the registration form .
After completing the form, students and parents schedule a meeting with the local school counselor to discuss the decision to enroll in the program, obtain a transcript, and then continue to enroll if this is determined to be a good educational placement.
All documents must be sent or delivered to the MS@K program office at Kent Career Tech Center.
Once we receive the paperwork, our staff will schedule an enrollment meeting with an MS@K counselor and the family to complete the enrollment process. We will also email the local school registrar with the student's class schedule.
There are both part-time and full-time options. Students can take just a single class or a full schedule with us. MySchool also offers options which allow a student to progress quickly through classes they have prior knowledge of, or have previously taken and failed.
What are Fast Track and Focus Track?
Fast Track allows students to earn credit in a single class in as few as 3 weeks through an intensive demonstration of course mastery. There are two ways to do this. The first is to demonstrate mastery through the state approved "test out" process. The second is to "fast track" through a class by taking proctored unit tests as well as pre and post-tests. Students who demonstrate mastery (80% or higher) in a pre-test may skip that unit. Those who do not achieve 80% must complete the entire unit and take a proctored post-test.
Focus Track is the practice of assigning students to only two classes to work on at any one time, usually beginning with math and ELA. Students using the Focus Track method may be enrolled in a number of classes, but only work on the two designated "focus" classes at once. They move on to the next two after finishing the first two.
